Britain’s got talent

I am sure Britain has got talent, loads of it, but England has a bit, certainly in the football department. Surely after too much country under achievement from our so called ‘Golden Generration’, this time round the players will play each game as if it were their last. Cole A, Terry, Gerrard, Rooney and Co have all had their share of the inevitable tears after pens (and not just for England).

Let’s hope that the old fashioned paper press lays off for a change, and the rumours that the respected weekend journal, The News of the World, will lay off our new skipper tomorrow. For once if our football journalists have some dignity, maybe our footballers will do the same. Certainly there seems to be a difference this time round. After all, it is often said that a fish rots from the head. With Mr Capello at the head, there is zero chance of that happening.

Meanwhile over on ITV……switch over to BBC2 and see what the members of the BEF at Dunkirk had to endure.  Check out the Little Ships by Dan Snow. A great way of spending an hour.

Meantime, just getting my shoes sorted out for the trip

The wonder of technology

So this is a direct post from my iPhone using the WordPress App, just testing everything out.

How things have moved on. In 2002 I lugged my old HP laptop to Japan for the World Cup and struggled with a 56k connection and all sorts of hassle, regularly phoning the IT department at work and pissing everyone off. Blogs did not really exist, so it was done as a mass email to selected contacts via laptop.

Then at the European Championships in 2004 (Holland & Belgium) armed with a series 1 Blackberry (still a classic and a game changer) I sent emails via that baby. But group email was tough and unreliable.

Things moved on somewhat in 2006 (Germany) and we sent updates to our website by email via Blackberries. Pics were a little more tricky! A good friend then manually updated the website http://www.thegreatescapers.com and voila we had a website, sort of in real time.

So now in 2010 we are hoping to get real time updates using the completely brilliant WordPress service and our iPhones. Plus as we update on Twitter, abracadabra and the tweets appear on the site. As we post to this site via the iPhone App, so it appears on Facebook. Mindblowing. So pressing send now and hoping for the best ;-))

Bring it Back to Blighty

England need a World Cup song as well as a load of luck. This could be the answer. Mo and John put this together, a top, top tune

Countdown; World Cup 2010 – South Africa – Greatescapers get ready

I am on the verge of my 7th World Cup following England and I must admit the excitement is building, fast. If the last 2 World Cups are anything to go by, following England will be a pleasant experience, rather than a test of  endurance and sometimes nerves. Plenty of scare stories are knocking around, but I am always a ‘brightside’ person and can only look forward to a completely new experience. A World Cup in Africa and the realisation of many dreams. Anyway, more of that stuff when I am actually ‘on site’. Today I am at home in the Cotswolds, tending the plants and trying to catch up on work ie trawling through thousands of emails and panicking, just a tad.

News of the day? More pre tournament injuries. To add to the awful news abouit Rio yesterday, three more top players have gone down with injuries today which look like they will keep them from taking part. John Obi Mikel, Didier Drogba and Arjen Robben. How many more players will we lose before kick off next Friday?

Off to think about packing. email, Twitter and Facebook…..
